OUTSIDE IN

I thought I’d sit out in my garden for this one. It felt kinda fitting, plus it’s such a beautiful day, what better place to sit and write about bringing the outdoors in than my garden ☺️

“There is so much evidence to suggest that surrounding yourself with plants is good for your mental wellbeing.”

It will come as no surprise to you that the best way to do this is with plants. I absolutely LOVE plants. There are so many benefits to them, it’s hard to know where to start.

After much deliberation, I’ve chosen to delve into the most important reason for bringing plants into our homes; Mental health. There is so much evidence to suggest that surrounding yourself with plants is good for your mental wellbeing. Being outside is proven to reduce stress and lift our mood which is exactly why bringing the outdoors in is so important.

For those of us that live in big cities, it can be tricky to escape urban life, especially for those that don’t have the luxury of a garden or any type of outdoor space. Creating a little ‘indoor garden’, even if it’s just a couple of plants, can make a huge difference. Having an area to experience a little nature, take in the greenery and natural beauty, a peaceful spot is so important.

There’s the added benefit of taking care of them, just like you would your garden. Watering them, making sure they’re in the right spot for optimal growth, trimming or re-potting them if needs be. Taking care of your plants is good for the soul, and the satisfaction you feel when your plant/s thrive is a real feel-good factor.

As someone who suffers from anxiety, I can honestly say that introducing plants into our home has had such a positive impact on my mental wellbeing and allows me to manage it much better. Truth be told, originally this was not the reason I bought my first plant, it was for styling purposes, aesthetic reasons. Not only did it look beautiful but it improved my mood almost instantly and for that reason, I found myself taking really good care of it and in turn, it took care of me.

Over time, I added another and another… and now I’m basically The Crazy Plant Lady, The Crazy Plant Lady with much lower stress levels, a more peaceful state of mind, a home with purified air and a passion that’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

“Start with one and see how you get on.”

So there you have it, bring the outdoors in with plants, it’s as simple as that. Start with one and see how you get on (Peace Lilly’s are a great ‘beginners’ plant, they’re basically unkillable, they’re good in almost any light, are forgiving of a little neglect and are so pretty). I guarantee it will be the start of something beautiful ✨

As restrictions are easing, shop safely, support small businesses, look after one another and enjoy 🥰
