Stop, Unwind and Relax

With the fast-paced way of life we all tend to live these days, it’s so important to create at least one space at home where you can stop, unwind and relax. What better place to do that than your very own bedroom?

After a long days work, a long day with the kids or even a day where you’re just feeling a bit ‘meh’, how nice would it be to walk into your own little sanctuary and literally shut the door on all your stresses and worries? Sound good? Well, let me share my top five tips with you now.

“Literally shut the doors on all your stresses and worries.”

Key Colours

Paint your room a calming colour.

Light blues are perfect if you want to reconnect with nature. They remind us of the sky and the ocean.

If you want to create a sanctury of tranquility and peace, try a light shade of purple

Dusty pinks are the way to go if you want to create a feeling of security and warmth.

If you would like something more neutral in colour then warm neutrals with yellow or red undertones are perfect. They create a calm, cosy ambience.

“Avoid anything too heavy on the eye.”

Less is More

It may be a cliche, but less really is more when it comes to bedroom decor.

Avoid anything too bold or vibrant. You are trying to create a relaxing space so avoid anything too heavy on the eye, for example, wallpaper with lots of bold prints and colours. This is going to draw you in and stimulate your mind, we want to slow it down and help you to relax

Soft Touch

Warm textures are great for comfort. Rugs, blankets and cushions will all add to the ambience of the space.

If possible, treat yourself to some indulgent bedding. Egyptian Cotton is a beautiful, breathable material that is so luxurious to touch.

“Candlelight and fragrances can really transform a space.”

Create the Mood

Candlelight and fragrances can really transform a space.

There is something about candlelight that is sooo relaxing and they look pretty too. If you do light some candles remember to blow them out before dosing off!

If you’re nervous about forgetting to blow them out then try using essential oils. Lavender would be a good choice as it helps to aid a good nights sleep and smells wonderful. An oil diffuser or even a few drops on your pillow will do the trick.

“Relaxation is about being mindful of where you are; Of that precise moment of peace.”

Leave the Screens Behind

Now this one’s a little controversial, something that my partner and I disagree on all the time, even though I know he’s right (annoyingly) and it’s something I’ve made the effort to do more recently: No screens in the bedroom!

Screens have a tendency to interrupt a peaceful environment. They distract you physically and make your mind wander to other places. Relaxation is about being mindful of where you are; Of that precise moment of peace.

You will find that without a digital distraction, you will be able to switch of easier and find that peaceful sanctuary that you will have been craving.

“It’s really important for our mental health to create a space we can enjoy, look forward to being in, relax in and switch off.”

So there you have it! Five tips I swear by to create the perfect wind-down space, just for you.

You don’t have to incorporate all of them. Even if you start with one or two then you’ll be well on your way to creating your own little sanctuary 💛

Personally, I think it’s really important for our mental health to create a space we can enjoy, look forward to being in, relax in and switch off.

Not only do we need it from time to time but we deserve it too.

Look after yourselves and each other 💛
